President's Message

Happy October, BOMA Greater Tucson!

Last week BOMA GT welcomed Sgt. Darrell Hussman with the Tucson Police Department to close out September. Sgt. Darrell Hussman gave members a presentation on de-escalation techniques with tips on how to keep our properties and businesses safe. While the focus of the presentation was on situations involving unhoused individuals and those experiencing mental health crises, I found that many of the techniques could apply to many other daily scenarios. As building owners, managers, and vendors, we are often contacted by tenants and clients when things go wrong – leading to elevated emotions. One of Sgt. Hussman’s comments that stuck with me was that the most important part of de-escalating a situation can be de-escalating ourselves. Learning your “hot buttons” to minimize negative reactions when faced with tough conversations can play a big part in reaching a resolution. We also learned that sometimes all you need is a french-fry snack to feel better.

There is still time to throw your name in the hat for a position on the BOMA Greater Tucson Board of Directors. Please reach out to Luann by October 11 to submit your name for the 2025 slate.

The BOMA Greater Tucson Annual Business Meeting is set for October 22, 2024. This will be a luncheon, with check-in at 11:30 am. At this meeting we will cover association business such as a review of the 2024 financials, voting on the 2025 proposed budget, and the election of the 2025 Officers and Board of Directors. It is mandatory we have a quorum for this meeting so please plan to join if you can. Registration is open through October 17 at Noon.

Let’s fla-mingle! The BOMA GT Annual Golf Tournament is coming up on November 8 has SOLD OUT! The tournament is held at the Forty Niner Country Club, and will have a shotgun start at 8:00 am following 6:45 am check-in. The golf committee is still accepting raffle prizes and goodie bag items. Please reach out to Luann for more details.

To wrap up the year, the Holiday Mixer & Members of the Year event will be held on December 12 beginning at 4:00 at Barrio Brewing Co. Appetizers and one free drink will be provided. We will also collect final donations for Southern Arizona Book Heros at the event. Get registered and join us for an evening of fun and networking to close out 2024!

As our Programs Committee finalizes the calendar for 2025, please let us know what events, education opportunities, or other ideas you would like to see brought to BOMA GT.

Call for Nominations ...

Members ...

Are you interested in being on the 2025 BOMA of Greater Tucson Board of Directors or would you like to nominate another member?  We need both principal and associate members.

This is a great way to get involved and contribute to YOUR association.  This association cannot thrive without active, involved members.  The commitment time for the board is minimal.  The board meets once a month (3rd Wednesday) at 3:00 via zoom.  It does not typically take more than 45 - 60 minutes.  You do not need to have prior board experience.

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Karen Wolf 2022-2024 President BOMA GT or Luann, Executive Director by Friday, October 11, 2024.
