President's Message

Happy February, BOMA Greater Tucson!

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us a few weeks ago for our 2024 kickoff luncheon featuring the owner of INfinitUS, Ryan Lambert, as our guest speaker. Ryan offered insight into how our brains work and how we can use this knowledge to set meaningful yet specific goals for the new year. Because our brains are wired for surviving, he stressed the importance of putting ourselves first, speaking positively to ourselves, and utilizing our brain’s desire for patterns to our advantage. Using these tools to create a vision board that can be seen frequently can help us consciously and subconsciously take steps towards our goals. Ryan inspired me to complete a vision board for 2024, and I look forward to seeing what I can accomplish by this time next year.

BOMA GT members Heather Baron (MAS Real Estate Services) and Eileen Lewis (RPA, FMA, BOMA Fellow, Torch Properties) will be instructing a Common Area Maintenance education class on February 15. This class will be geared towards newer property managers or those who would like to brush up on the ins-and-outs of the CAM process. There is a prompt 8 a.m. start time, with the first part of the class covering the basics of a CAM reconciliation and the second part working through a hands-on workshop. This class is free to members and those from a member’s office, and open to non-members for a $25 fee.

On February 27, Asst. Chief Duffy with the Tucson Police Department will join us to speak on homelessness, crime, and drugs in Tucson. At a luncheon held last year, Asst. Chief Duffy spoke with a few other TPD and City of Tucson representatives, so I am excited we are able to welcome her back for an update. This was a well-attended meeting last year, so I encourage you to register before the deadline on February 22, at noon, to ensure you secure a spot!

BOMA GT has chosen Southern Arizona Book Heroes, founded by Jennifer Turner-Jones, as the organization we are supporting for 2024.  At our February luncheon, Jennifer will share her story and ways we can help this incredible organization.  The first event will be our Christmas in July mixer.  Stay tuned for more details.

Looking ahead to March, we will welcome Ilan Wurman, an Associate Professor of Law at Arizona State University, to talk about his public nuisance litigation against the City of Phoenix and the similar efforts in Tucson. Professor Wurman will also touch on the public camping and homelessness crisis nationwide, and what business owners can do about it. Registration is open!

As our Programs Committee finalizes the 2024 calendar and brainstorms for 2025, please let us know what events, education opportunities, or other ideas you would like to see brought to BOMA GT.

Karen Wolf, Town West Realty
President, BOMA GT
