President's Message

Happy New Year, BOMA GT!

I am so excited to be heading into a new year with BOMA Greater Tucson, and I am looking forward to another year with all our members.

At our end-of-the-year Holiday Mixer, we not only were able to mix and mingle but we were also able to present two BOMA GT Members of the Year Awards. The award for Associate Member of the Year was presented to Barbara Camacho (SERVPRO), for her dedication to BOMA over her past 10-years as a member through active participation, sponsorships, board positions, and much more. The award for Principal Member of the Year was presented to Ashley Chiquete (PICOR), for her willingness to jump right in as a newer member and newer property manager with her involvement as Secretary/Treasurer, and involvement with multiple committees.

BOMA Greater Tucson’s very own Eileen Lewis, (BOMA Fellow, RPA®, FMA®, Torch Properties) was elected by Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) as one of six new Board of Trustees members. If you would like to read the press release from BOMI, please click here. Eileen is excited to bring a smaller association perspective to the group and to learn more about how we can leverage education opportunities for BOMA members through BOMI. Congratulations, Eileen!

For the first BOMA luncheon event of 2024 we will welcome motivational speaker Ryan Lambert, the owner of INfinitUs Mindset. On January 23, 2024, Ryan will present on You, Your Brain, Your Goals. Ryan has over 20 years of experience with financial planning, neuropsychology, and leadership, and works with C-suite executives, athletes, and teams across the country. The intended take-aways from this presentation include are: Realize what you are thinking about at any given moment. Why you are the most important person in your life. How your brain is wired for surviving but not thriving. How to accomplish your key goals. Sounds like a great way to start the year, so if you have not done so yet be sure to register by January 18, 2024.

The BOMA 2024 Winter Business and National Issues Conference is January 27-31, 2024, and is held in Washington DC. If you are interested in attending or if you would like to learn more, please visit the website here.

BOMA Georgia is graciously sharing a webinar opportunity with BOMA Greater Tucson, facilitated by Stevie Dawn Carter, PhD, on the topic of The Art of Emotional Intelligence. The webinar will be held on January 30, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. This event is free with a Promo Code, so please reach out to Luann when registering to receive the code.

Asst. Chief Duffy with the Tucson Police Department will join us in February to speak on homelessness, crime, and drugs in Tucson. In March, Associate Professor Wurman will talk about his public nuisance litigation against the City of Phoenix, similar efforts in Tucson and elsewhere, as well as the public camping and homelessness crisis nationwide, and what business owners can do about it. Registration is open for both events.  Visit www.bomagt.org to get registered!
